Excavation in Byron Bay & the Northern Rivers
Every garden on this coast is built on what happens before anyone plants anything. Get the levels, the fall and the drainage wrong and the prettiest planting in the Northern Rivers will still be sitting in water two winters later.

Too steep to walk
The Suffolk Park escarpment came to us as a slope you could not stand on. We cut terraces into it, held them with corten steel and sandstone, and drained every level before a single plant went in. The garden that sits on it now is the easy part. The cut underneath is the reason it is still there.
How we work
We clear, cut, trench and level sites across Byron Bay, Suffolk Park, Bangalow, Lennox Head, Brunswick Heads, Ballina and the wider Northern Rivers. Most of our work is the first stage of a build we then finish ourselves, which is the point: the crew cutting the batter is the same crew setting the retaining wall into it, so nobody is guessing what the next trade needed.
Northern Rivers soil moves. Heavy clay through the hinterland, sand closer to the beach, and a wet season that finds every mistake in a drainage run. We set falls to daylight where we can and to a proper pit where we cannot, and we compact in layers rather than dumping and hoping.
